The Mid-Tidewater Baptist Association was organized in October 1959, when the Baptist churches of this area met at Poroporone Baptist Church in Shacklefords, Virginia. The Mid-Tidewater Baptist Association is comprised of 30 churches located in Essex, Gloucester, King and Queen, Lancaster, Mathews, Middlesex, Northumberland, and Richmond Counties on the Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck of Virginia.
